The Black Writers' Book Club (BWBC) focuses on books written by Black British writers.

Books are a powerful way to discover the world around us and make changes. BWBC promotes literacy, visibility and the joy of reading Black authors.

We make our choices thoughtfully and look for ways to deepen our connection to books, writers, and ourselves.

We meet on the last Wednesday of the month and welcome readers from Africa, Caribbean and other Black British backgrounds, as well as readers of other ethnicities who are interested in Black British writing.

Next Book: The Longest Memory by Fred D'Aguiar

Date: Wednesday 29th May 2024

The Longest Memory  is set on a Virginian plantation in the 19th century, and tells the tragic story of a rebellious, fiercely intelligent young slave who breaks all the rules: in learning to read and write, in falling in love with a white girl, the daughter of the owner, and finally, in trying to escape and join her in the free North.
