The Black Writers' Book Club (BWBC) focuses on books written by Black British writers.
Books are a powerful way to discover the world around us and make changes. BWBC promotes literacy, visibility and the joy of reading Black authors.
We make our choices thoughtfully and look for ways to deepen our connection to books, writers, and ourselves.
We meet on the last Wednesday of the month and welcome readers from African, Caribbean and other Black British backgrounds, as well as readers of other ethnicities who are interested in Black British writing.

George Lamming's In the Castle of My Skin
In the Castle of My Skin, the first novel of by Barbadian writer George Lamming, tells the story of the mundane event of a young boy's life that take place amid dramatic changes in the village and society in which he lives. First published in London in 1953, the novel uses such characteristics devices of modernist fiction as shifting perspective and unreliable narration to recount the boyhood of a fairly traditional fictional protagonist: a sensitive unusual intelligent young boy, with a protective mother, who grows up among his peers but, because of his intelligence, takes a different path.
